Poor Visual Design: Yoplait yogurt

Yoplait yogurt is a well-known yogurt drink in North America. Their commercials are on TVs, New papers and posters around the City. Personal have seen Yoplait on kid TVs, general News channels. Yoplait yogurt presents a healthy active lifestyle towards their audiences. Their advertisement was always targeting the healthy active image; however, the following poster from Yoplait was poorly designed.

This particular poster was launched in 2007 as advertisement campaign in Ireland, as promote their new product to their major target market, women who concerned about their body shape. This poster was titled “Everybody”, contained a women with her nude back; behind were two pairs of hands other than her own wrapping around her. This campaign was labeled “Everybody loves your body”. I was not comfortable when I looked at this poster, since this changed the image of the company immediately. I did not think this poster was appropriate for this particular product. This poster was found in bus station nearby school in Ireland, the sexually suggestive image would not be the best located near schools.


Smart Analysis:

Situation: Yoplait Yogurt Company wants to strengthen its brand name by present this poster in a advertising campaign in Ireland.

Message: The message of this poster was promoting their product that is healthy and loved by slim women. The underline message will be who drinks this product will be as slim as this women. The poster was largely covered by the nude women but their main product was a bottle holding by the women. This poster was better suited for a beauty clinic or cosmetic product for women’s body, not a healthy yogurt drink. Their initial message was to play around with the word “everybody” and “body” to show the importance of body to everyone.

Audience: The intended audience is for women who is yogurt lover but concerned about their body shape as well. This might not be attractive for all women by showing a nude body. Instead, this could attract more men as it was sexually appealing to men.

Response: The initial response the company need was tending to sale more to their target market in Ireland. This poster will be sure grab people’s attention for the first time. However, it was hard for the audiences to wan to buy this product.
